It is easy to rely on other people's knowledge and understanding of who God is because they look like they have done the work so you can lean on them. But in order to know God for who He really is; you have to discover God for yourself. Especially in today's world where everybody's point of view, perception and spiritual beliefs is very different: it is very important that you desire to know and understand God for yourself. The fact is this is a deeply personal journey, that transcends beyond what you were taught by your parents; or what has been said to you in church. It is knowing who God is to you outside the four walls of a building.
In a world filled with a lot of confusion and uncertainty where everybody is running around to finding with to align with; I wish you would understand that the only probable being that can bring the calm and stillness required to navigate this tumultuous period is by looking to God and getting to know who He is to you and what better way to know who God is than by delving into His word. Matthew 7:7; "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." , the bible says for who asks, an answer will be provided. So the best way to actually know of a person is to ask questions. Go on a journey of asking God who He is. Ask Him to show you and help you to understand His person. Ask God to show you on a personal level and He will do just that. When you "Seek" Him, you will find Him because the bible says for everyone who seeks, you will find. When you seek to know the truth of who God is, He will begin to direct you in ways beyond your imagination. He will direct you to scriptures that describes who He is, He will direct you to read books that describe Him in the light of His greatness. All you have to do is ASK.
Ps 34:8; "Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in
him!" There is no way you get to taste from someone you don't know! The power of personal experience is at the center of Knowing God for Yourself; you get to experience the beauty of who God is and the beautiful thing about God is, He doesn't make you work hard to experience is greatness. When you seek to know God for yourself on a personal level, you start to experience Him in ways that are simply mind blowing. There are revelations, comfort and a transformation that comes with the experience that shows you just how good and gracious God is and trust me those experiences make your inside happy. A very recent personal experience; so I host my girls every month for a night of talk, prayer, feasting and sharing". I was doing pick up with one of the girls who lives in a different city so I had planned my route even before leaving my house to pick her up because I wanted to beat time.
On my way back home from picking her, I was about to make the exit on 280 to get on GSP but I saw an illusion of traffic so I changed my mind and decided on a different route. As I passed a little forward; I said to my girl "Oh there's no traffic and I really wanted to take GSP so we could make it back on time" and we both laughed. On the different route to get to my house, one of the girls texted her friend who was in my car if I could pick her up. Now if I had taken the GSP, that would not have been possible. The beautiful thing about that experience was that my girl in the car could also relate to how excited I felt about what the Holy Spirit had done, how he had re-routed me so that I can pick up the other girl and how I didn't not argue or sulk at the re-routing. As insignificant as this might seem to you, those are the things you'd enjoy once you get into building a deep and personal relationship with God. How He takes interest in everything that concerns you and how He works things out in ways that bring you peace, joy and all around fulfillment and satisfaction.
Jer 29:13;"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." cultivating a personal relationship with God is filled with intimacy, love, trust and peace of mind. And just like every other relationship in your life, it takes time, it requires attention and definitely needs your vulnerability. There is no way to build a deep and intimate relationship with vulnerability. And the beautiful thing about God is He takes that vulnerability and makes it into a beautiful message that others will benefit from. So whatever you do, nurture your relationship with God through studying the word of God, praying and fellowship with the Holy Spirit so that you can experience the beauty of God's presence in your everyday life.
Finally, the process of Knowing God for Yourself is not a destination but a lifelong pursuit, it is a constant adventure of faith, exploration, and encounter. Marked with moments of joy and wonder, as well as times of doubt and uncertainty. Matt 11:30; "For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Of course, the devil is going to fight your progress especially because he knows the great things you will enjoy because you now have a relationship with the father. But through it all, you have to constantly want to draw near to God, to seek and to find, and to know God in ever-deeper ways. And I pray that the Holy Spirit be your guide and companion on your journey, as you embark on knowing God for yourself.
