Nourish Your Spirit

Writer: Adeola OladeleAdeola Oladele

Just as much it is important to nourish your body, keep it healthy and fit for a better life; it is even more important to nourish your Spirit. The reason is way after your body is dead and decayed, what is left is your soul. It never dies! It is what lives on and the only way to ensure your soul ends up in heaven is by nourishing your soul more than you nourish your body. Understanding that feeding your spirit enables your body to function at its maximum capacity because in Prov 3:7-8; "Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones"

In order to enhance your spirit; you have to do the work that enhances and grows the spirit. Just like you have a workout regime for your body to keep in shape and physically fit, you also need a Spiritual Workout regime. Just as there are times dedicated to physical exercise, setting time apart for spiritual nourishment is also very important. It is good to have moments of prayer, studying the word, fellowshipping with God in order to constantly feed and grow your spirit. Working on your spiritual stamina will help to cultivate inner strength, resilience, and peace amidst life's challenges. Nourishing your spirit will prepare you in days when your body is weak and wandering.

1 Cor 6:19 - 20; Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in 'you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies". Your bodies are temples, most especially a temple of God because you are of God. Hence, your spirit deserves care and respect; and the most important part of your being is your spirit. A way to honor your body is to ensure that your spirit does not lack the appropriate nutrient.

Ways to Nourish your Spirit are simple practices but that needs to come with commitment and intentionality; the only way the practice can be successful is if you are determined and dedicated to the process listed below.

  1. Prayer: Prayer is not meant to be an act of asking God for the good things of life; it should be a regular communication with God because it is a foundation for spiritual nourishment. You have to be intentional about your prayer time, plan to spend time in both spoken and silent prayer, expressing gratitude, seeking guidance, and offering praise to God. 1 Thes 5: 16 - 18

  2. Studying the Word: There is no way to know about spiritual things but by studying the word of God. The Bible teaches you what you need to know and more importantly how to grow your spiritual life. The knowledge of the Holy Spirit; the one person that can help with nourishing your spirit, is only available through the study of the word. Make it a habit to study the word of God. Heb 4:12

  3. Worship: Living a life of worship is one important way and imbibing yourself in worship is another way to nourish your Spirit. An wavering life of worship is Spirit centralized and empowers your body to be more in tune with spiritual things. When your life is focused on worshipping God all your days, it will be obvious in the choices you make when it comes to living life. Some things will be unacceptable to you because your spirit will repel them. Romans 12:1

  4. Fellowship: Surround yourself with like-minded people who share your faith and values. Who are interested in your spiritual growth and are also on a journey themselves. Moving with the wrong or not like-minded people will distract you at a point. Hence, it is important to ensure you keep the company of those who will pour into you what your spirit needs to actually grow and not take away from your processes.

The more you work on feeding your spirit, the more it becomes second nature and the things of the spirit starts to entice way more than the things of the flesh. You become more in tuned with the Holy Spirit and people cannot understand where you stop and the Holy Spirit starts because you are so entwined it is impossible to penetrate you.

If you are going to work on building and nourishing your spirit, leave a comment on the steps you intend to take and let's chat.
